Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, April 12
The city wrestling team has brought laurels to the city by emerging as the overall champions in the Fourth Senior Alysh Wrestling Championship organised by the Alysh Wrestling Federation of India in New Delhi from April 9 to 11.

Besides claiming two gold, one silver and four bronze medals, Bharat Kesri Jagmeet Singh, a product of Wrestling Coaching Centre, Sector 42, also bagged the best wrestler award in the championship.
Coach Darshan Lal said his disciples performed brilliantly in the competition. While Jagmeet took just 1.40 minutes to emerge as the winner against Maharashtra Kesari Pankaj Gawede in the 120-kg class final, Parvesh defeated Sushil of Uttar Pradesh in the 73-kg final to win the gold medal. Deepak got silver after losing to Pankaj of Haryana in the 66-kg bout final. The other medal winners (bronze) were Deepak (60 kg), Sunil (90 kg), Ravinder (81 kg), and Jagdeep (100 kg).
Earlier, hundreds of villagers of Ishapur village (from where Jagmeet hails) and nearby villagers gathered outside Ishapur village to welcome the team. The team members and officials were honoured at Jagmeet’s residence.
